People at Arecibo have helped a lot of us over the years to accomplish our science. My last two papers used Arecibo measurements -- specifically the line feed antenna that was destroyed by the Hurricane. I would have never been able to do these measurements without the tireless help from the staff working at Arecibo Observatory.
A lot of the staff now have severely damaged homes. Many are still without running water and electricity. There also reports that food and fuel is hard to come by. USRA has setup an on-line fundraiser to help staff affected
