Broadband HF receive antenna

A good broadband HF receive antenna is the workhorse of a radio scientist working in the field of space physics. This can be used for many purposes. It can act as e.g., a bi-static over-the-horizon radar receiver, stimulated electromagnetic emissions receiver, an ionosonde receiver, auroral radio emissions receiver, or even a riometer receiver.

This summer, one of the summer student projects is to build a broadband HF antenna. The work includes testing existing designs and fabricating a number of antennas that can be used for future HF experiments. Towards the end of the summer, we will hopefully have an inteferometric HF imaging system that can be used for imaging stimulated electromagnetic emissions and also for HF range-Doppler radar up in Svalbard.
